Burning Down the House is designed around private observation. That principle extends to the information you entrust to the Stand-Down.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, how it is used, and the choices you have concerning it.
Information we collect
When you use the website or participate in the Stand-Down, we may collect information necessary to provide the service, including your name, email address, account information, subscription or purchase status, and basic technical information associated with your use of the site.
If you subscribe to our newsletter, we use your contact information to send the communications you requested. You may unsubscribe at any time.
Payment information is handled through the payment provider shown at checkout. Burning Down the House does not need to retain your complete payment-card details.
Your Journal and Record
The Stand-Down allows you to create private material including Journal entries, Morning Moment records, Somatic References, touchstone memories, observations, photographs and other information you choose to record.
This material belongs to you.
It is collected so that the Stand-Down can provide your Record, preserve continuity between sessions, and allow you to review your own observations over time.
We do not sell this material. We do not use your private Journal or Record for advertising.
Employer-funded memberships
Your privacy does not change because somebody else paid for your membership.
If access to the Stand-Down is purchased or funded by your employer, organisation or another sponsoring body, that organisation may receive limited participation information, such as whether your account has been activated, whether you are participating in the programme, or agreed aggregate attendance or completion information.
Your employer does not receive access to the contents of your Journal, your Record, your Somatic References, touchstone memories, personal observations, AI conversations, photographs, or other private material you create within the Stand-Down.
Payment for access does not confer ownership of, or a right of access to, your private data.
Where organisational reporting is provided, we will distinguish between attendance or participation data and private user content. Private user content remains private to the individual user except where disclosure is required by law or specifically authorised by that user.
Artificial intelligence
Some Stand-Down features may use artificial intelligence to help you retrieve, compare, organise or reflect upon information contained in your Record.
Where such a feature requires information to be processed by an external AI service, only information required to provide that feature should be transmitted. We will identify the relevant service providers and explain the applicable processing and retention arrangements as part of the final implementation of these features.
AI-generated observations are not medical or psychological diagnoses and should not be treated as professional healthcare advice.
How we use your information
We use personal information only where reasonably necessary to operate the website and Stand-Down, maintain your account and Record, provide features you request, process purchases, communicate with you, maintain security, improve the service, and comply with applicable legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information.
Who may process your information
We may use trusted service providers to operate parts of the website and Stand-Down, including hosting, email, payment processing, authentication, data storage and artificial-intelligence services.
Where another provider processes personal information on our behalf, we will take reasonable steps to ensure appropriate contractual, privacy and security protections are in place.
Retention and deletion
Personal information is retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, subject to legal, accounting and operational requirements.
Where available within your account, you may delete individual material from your Journal or Record. You may also contact us regarding deletion of your account and associated personal information, subject to information we are legally required to retain.
Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against unauthorised access, loss, alteration or disclosure.
No online system can guarantee absolute security, however, and users should consider this when deciding what information they choose to record.
Your choices and rights
Depending upon where you live, applicable data-protection law may give you rights concerning your personal information, including rights of access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection or portability.
You may contact us to exercise an applicable right or ask how your information is being handled.
Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the Stand-Down, its technology or applicable legal requirements develop. The current version and revision date will always be published here.
